Welcome to St. Anne Roman Catholic Grade Catholic School

Dear Parent(s),

Welcome to St. Anne's Kindergarten Preparatory Program, where Jesus is part of every day activities. Our school is committed to providing quality early learning experiences, in a Christian and nurturing environment. The children will be involved in "hands-on-learning" allowing them to explore, manipulate, discover, raise questions and solve conflicts. We will encourage and support each child's physical, social, emotional, spiritual and cognitive growth.

We welcome you and your child to the program and trust that with your input, we can create a successful experience for your child's education and growth.

Program Hours
The Kindergarten Preparatory Program will start in September 2006. The schedule consists of three or four days a week (half-day each). Parents will be expected to arrive and pick up their child on time since it is important to reinforce consistency in each child's schedule. If the child is not going to attend on a particular day, please notify the teacher or the office.

Daily Schedule
The daily schedule is extremely important because young children feel most secure when they know what is going to happen next. Small changes may be made within the normal schedule to accommodate the needs and interests of the students.

Curriculum
The goal of the program is to provide age appropriate experiences in a Christian environment, which encourages each child to develop his/her capabilities. Children are encouraged to make decisions, explore, discover, be creative and solve problems. Students will be exposed to learning centers, group activities and teacher initiated activities, which provide learning experiences in areas such as: Creative art, fine and gross motor development, language, science, social studies, math readiness, reading readiness, beginning phonics, letters/sounds and social/emotional development. Some of the group activities and stories will revolve around different themes.

Prayers
The Kindergarten Preparatory Class is a Christ centered Program. Each school day begins and ends with a prayer and Grace is said before snack. Please help your child learn the prayers at home.

Morning Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, be with me today and help me in all I think, and do, and say. Amen.

Grace before Snack
Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest, let these gifts to us be blessed. Amen.

Prayer before Dismissal
Until we meet again, keep us 0 Lord as the apple of your eye and protect us. Amen.

Snacks
Snacks will be provided by the school.

Birthdays
Birthdays may be celebrated on or near the child's birthday. Parents are welcomed to attend and will be contacted for further arrangements.

Celebrations
Parents will be notified of celebrations that will take place in the classroom. Parents are welcomed to attend and volunteer.

Proper Clothes
Students will be working with paint, glue etc. Please dress your child in comfortable clothes and shoes in anticipation of these activities.

It is natural for children to want to bring toys from home to share, but this will be allowed oh designated days only. A letter will be sent home informing parents of when children can bring in a book to share or a an item for show and tell.

Home-School Connection
It is important for children to practice at home the skills learned. at school. Short and simple activities will be sent home every week in the child's folder and they are to be completed at home with a parent. The activities will focus on different areas of the curriculum. Once completed, please return the child's work the following week.

Classroom Guidelines
Guidelines will be posted daily in the classroom and they will be discussed with the students to help them learn what behaviors are expected and acceptable. Please discuss/explain them to your child at home:

We take care of our classroom
We use walking feet
We use soft voices
We use gentle touches
We raise our hand when we need to talk
We listen when others are talking

Positive Guidance
Our goal is for the students to be aware of the guidelines and follow them because they understand their values. It is our responsibility to state, explain and model the expected behavior; teaching them the appropriate words and skills needed to handle situations in a positive way. When conflicts arise between students, instead of immediately separating them, they are involved in the problem solving process. In the classroom we use redirection, logical consequences and problem solving techniques.

Parent/Teacher Communication
It is important that parents communicate their needs and ideas openly and honestly to the teacher and arrangements can be made to discuss any issues or concerns. Newsletters will be sent home with information such as: activities, special events, celebrations and skills that children are working on. Please take time to read the newsletters, as they will contain important information regarding the program.

Parent Involvement
Parent's involvement in the program is an important part in the child's education. Parents are invited to come into the classroom and share any of the following activities:

Read a story to the students
Teach a simple song or a musical activity
Do an art/craft project
Bring in an instrument and show them how it works
Play an educational game with the students
Share a talent or hobby with the classroom

If a parent will be unable to volunteer in the classroom due to scheduling conflict but would still like to be involved, then contact the teacher for further arrangements.

Our Kindergarten Preparatory Program follows the guidelines described in this package, in addition to St. Anne School policies and regulations. Please refer to St. Anne School Handbook for detailed information.
