Promotion/Retention
Continuous
promotion through the grade levels is the standard for the vast majority
of students who are making normal progress.
Recommendation for retention would be made only after a thorough
study of the child's needs involving parents, teacher, administration,
and specialists.
REACT
(Reach for Expressive and Creative Thinking)
Project
REACT is designed to meet the needs of those students who have
demonstrated strong expressive and creative talents in Language Arts.
This is an enrichment program geared to the further development
of these talents. The
student is involved in a variety of Language Arts experiences fashioned
to stimulate interest, higher levels of thinking skills, and better
understanding of oneself.
Students
meet in small groups on a bi-weekly schedule.
Potential participants are recommended by the homeroom teachers,
with final selections being made on the basis of a variety of tests.

Progress
Reports
At
the mid-point of each marking period teachers send home Progress Reports
with students who are not making satisfactory progress or whose work has
seriously deteriorated. It
is hoped that this communication will encourage home-school efforts
toward improvements.

Testing
In
the fall students in Grades 3,5,and 7 will take the comprehensive IOWA
Test of Basic Skills. These
tests are administered so that individual student's strengths and
weaknesses can be consistently evaluated.
Test results are always sent home to parents with explanations. Eighth graders who wish to apply to Catholic High Schools
will take the STS placement test in November.

Graduation
A
formal graduation ceremony is held for those students who successfully
complete the eighth grade. An
informal gathering is also held to note the end of the kindergarten
year.
