Discipline
Expulsion
Expulsion is the supreme disciplinary penalty that a school can
invoke upon any student. It
should always involve the intervention of the School Office of the
Archdiocese. It is the
policy of the schools of the Archdiocese that a student may be expelled
only for a serious offense through which the morals of the school is so
seriously undermined that it is deemed necessary to invoke this penalty
in order to deter others from similar offense.
This penalty requires the approval and consent of the Pastor in
each case.
1.
Written notice of charges against a student shall be supplied to the
student and his parents or guardian and included within this notice
shall be a statement of the time and place for the hearing, which time
therefore shall be reasonable for parties involved.
2.
Parents or guardian shall be present at the meeting.
3.
The student, parent or guardian may be represented by legal counsel.
4.
The student shall be given an opportunity to give his version of the
facts and their implications. He
should be allowed to offer the testimony of other witnesses as evidence.
5.
The student shall be allowed to observe all evidence offered against
him. In addition, he shall
be allowed to question any witness.
6.
The hearing shall be conducted by the pastor, who shall make his
determination solely upon the evidence presented at the hearing.
7.
A record shall be kept of the hearing.
8.
If the Pastor approves, the school office will complete the expulsion
form.
9.
Return expulsion form to Associate Superintendent at the Archdiocesan
School Office.
10.
Case is reviewed by the Archdiocesan personnel.
11.
A record of the official action is sent to the school.
12.
Throughout this process, the student's education is uninterrupted.
The responsibility to provide the means for this rests with the
school. In the event that an expulsion is finalized, it is recorded
on the permanent record as an ordinary termination of attendance.
